Low Backache (LBA)

Low backache, also known as lower back pain, is a common condition that affects the lower part of the spine. It can range from mild discomfort to severe pain and can be acute or chronic in nature.

Types of Low Backache

  • Acute Low Backache: Lasting for less than 6 weeks.
  • Sub acute Low Backache: Lasting between 6 to 12 weeks.
  • Chronic Low Backache: Lasting for 12 weeks or longer.
  • Radicular Low Backache: Caused by compression, inflammation, or injury to a spinal nerve root.

Symptoms

  • Dull, aching pain in the lower back
  • Muscle spasms or tightness
  • Difficulty standing up straight
  • Pain that radiates down one or both legs
  • Limited flexibility or range of motion

Prevention

  • Maintain a healthy weight: Excess weight can strain the lower back.
  • Exercise regularly: Strengthening core muscles can support the spine.
  • Practice good posture: Avoid slouching or hunching over.
  • Lift heavy objects correctly: Bend at the knees and lift with your legs, not your back.
  • Use ergonomically designed furniture: Supportive chairs and desks can help prevent back strain.
