Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. Here is a detailed overview of Tuberculosis, including its types, spread, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention:

Types of Tuberculosis

  1. Latent TB Infection (LTBI): In this form, the bacteria are present in the body but are in an inactive state and do not cause symptoms. However, they can become active later.
  2. Active TB Disease: This is when the bacteria become active and cause symptoms. It can be further categorized into pulmonary TB (affecting the lungs) and extrapulmonary TB (affecting other parts of the body).

How Tuberculosis Spreads

TB is spread through the air when a person with active TB disease coughs or sneezes, releasing bacteria into the air. People nearby can inhale these bacteria and become infected.

Symptoms of Tuberculosis

  1. 1-Persistent cough that lasts more than three weeks
  2. 2-Chest pain
  3. Coughing up blood
  4. Fatigue
  5. Fever and chills
  6. Loss of appetite
  7. Weight loss
  8. Night sweats

Prevention of Tuberculosis

  1. Vaccination: The Bacillus Calmette- Guerin (BCG) vaccine can help prevent severe forms of TB in children.
  2. Infection Control: Proper ventilation, wearing masks, and isolating individuals with active TB can help prevent the spread of the disease.
  3. Treatment of Latent TB: Treating latent TB infection can prevent the development of active TB disease.

Early detection and treatment are key in managing Tuberculosis effectively. If you suspect you have been exposed to TB or are experiencing symptoms, consult a healthcare provider for proper evaluation and care.
